New Bösendorfer 214 VC : Special Satin Finish Conservatory Series (SSCS)
History: Ignaz Bösendorfer established his company in 1828 when he registered his business in Vienna as a piano maker. By 1859, upon his passing, Ludwig Bösendorfer furthered the company by moving into larger facilities. A century later, after undergoing ownership changes, the company was acquired by Kimball Piano Company. Finally, in 2008, the Yamaha Corporation purchased Bösendorfer. Pianos are still crafted in Austria, and Yamaha has stated that there are no plans to alter production methods. The Conservatory Series (ending with CS) represents the simpler, more competitively priced models, without compromising on Bösendorfer’s signature quality.

Bösendorfer, one of the oldest piano manufacturers, was established in 1828 by Ignaz Bösendorfer. The company has a long and illustrious history of producing highly respected instruments. Today, Bösendorfer continues to handcraft its pianos in the same Vienna factory, with about 300 premium pianos made annually.

The Bösendorfer sound is often described as slightly darker and richer than that of most other pianos, known for its extraordinary depth and resonance. The rim of a Bösendorfer grand piano is constructed quite differently from that of all other grands. Rather than bending veneers around a form, the rim is crafted in solid sections of spruce, jointed together. This method ensures that the spruce, being superior at transmitting sound, enhances the piano’s tonal quality.
